Illegal immigration is here to stay, and without any changes in the immediate future, the American citizens will struggle. Undocumented people are tapping into the United States government system, and putting our money to work for their benefit. Jobs are being taken, wages are being affected, there is entitlement to our public education system and health benefits. Our government should be working towards a solution to keep our people safe from the burden undocumented people bring.

SUPPORTS:

The United States is currently working on a solution that would help keep illegal immigrants out. Donald trump has proposed a solution of building a more secured wall on our borders to keep intruders out. Donald Trump is also currently sending National Guard troops to watch the border and help by providing more surveillance. In 2015 there were over 11 million unauthorized immigrants in the United States. This is just an estimate, but a recent study shows upwards of 30 million. In 2016 a report posted by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy that indeed undocumented immigrants paid down $11 billion in taxes but that still leaves over $41 billion left on the table towards the debt of education. If we were to build a stronger, more reliable, secured border we could help prevent people crossing into the United states illegally . An unsecured border is a threat to both our national security and our economic security. Without secure borders, no immigration reform plan can ever work. Law enforcement agencies must have all the resources they need to protect and patrol.

ICE in 2017 deported 105,736 immigrants who had been convicted of crimes, a small uptick from 2016. The overall number of arrests was up 40 percent from the previous year, but still well below previous highs; in 2013, at the peak of its enforcement, the Obama administration deported a record high 434,015 people. Obama shifted priorities after that year, when it became clear that Congress would not pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill, and the deportation numbers plunged. Congress should be working on a new immigration reform bill which would carry a mass deportation across the United States. Its unfair and unjust to American citizens not to know people who surround them every day. At birth we are born with an identity so the government can keep track of its citizens and keep us safe, but with undocumented people, there is no way of tracking the people here.

WARRANTS:

Arizona, I believe, has had a great stance on illegal immigration . The great majority of people in Arizona, however, do not want to stop legal immigration. In fact, legal immigrants are often welcomed because people believe they infuse new energy and vitality into the communities they join. The primary concerns about illegal immigration, shared by many Americans, center on the fact that the U.S. government cannot monitor immigration as it should when millions simply cross the border illegally and then remain in the United States. Additionally, many Americans believe that based on their actions, illegal immigrants cannot have much respect for American law, culture, and institutions. Immigration activists often suggest that the best way to solve the immigration problem is to grant amnesty to those who are in the U.S. illegally, but who are not convicted felons. Some argue that in order to be granted citizenship, illegal immigrants should be required to pay a fine, and/or be subjected to other penalties. In 2010 the Arizona Legislature passed an immigration law that orders immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the United States illegally. It also targets those who hire illegal immigrant laborers or knowingly transport them.

OPPOSING VIEW:

Some people would argue that America has hit unemployment lows across virtually all categories of workers is at or near historic lows, so displacing native-born workers isn’t much of an issue, also that immigrants both legal and illegal would have no affect on the job market and wages. Some arguments could also be made that indeed illegal immigrants do pay down on taxes and do make contributions towards the U.S government and are helping lower the national debt ceiling.

I have a lot of facts and personal stories that I can include to help piece this final together !
