The chapter discusses several professional organizations that have established codes of ethics for the helping profession, including the National Organization for Human Service (NOHS), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the American Psychological Association (APA). The human service professional code of ethics is guided by the National Organization for Human Services (NOHS). Incorporating ethical considerations in the workplace is paramount to the human service professional. Violations can result in disciplinary actions or even dismissal. The human service professional must have a personal constitution which supports and represents the values stated in the NOHS Code of Ethics. The code of ethics and laws should guide your professional practice. You also read about how the human service professional must maintain boundaries. Establishing and managing appropriate boundaries for the professional allows for good practices. The readings allowed you to self-examine and reflect on ethical codes, laws, and appropriate decisions. Recognizing unethical behavior in yourself and your colleagues allows for competence and responsibility.
